3 YEARS AGO TODAY
Today me & my gf were fortunate enough to both have the day off so we decided that we were going to take full advantage of the day by going out and getting chocolate wasted. Now of course our plan wasn’t to just get completely hammered, we just wanted to go and have some fun together and drink some quality beers at the same time. We started at our all time favorite place(besides Disneyland) Redondo Beach Pier. From restaurants and bars to nightclubs & an arcade, not to mention the beautiful beach, The Pier has everything we need to have a good time. We decided to ride our bikes to the pier instead of driving. Mr. Sun permitted it & it was a good way of earning our beers.
Our 1st stop at the pier was Gambrinus, a family owned Russian bar right on the waterfront. They make these amazingly fresh Russian blinis that are like a crepe but I believe they call it more of a Russian pancake. They can be sweet or savory depending on what you choose to stuff in them. We usually like to keep it savory and stuff it with mushrooms, greens, meat, and cheese😋. We washed them down with Pilsner Urquel and Zywiec Porter. The main reason I love Gambrinus is because they serve European beer on draft that’s imported. Alot of beer from Germany, Poland, and Czech Republic are non-pasteurized which every beer in the US is pasteurized by law which kills alot of flavor so it’s such a real treat to try these fully flavored beers. By the way, Pilsner Urquell on tap is something Godly I’ll tell ya. We hung out with some of the other regulars and shared a couple of pitchers before riding back to my place.
Got home and enjoyed a nice homemade meal paired with Alesmith Brewing’s Evil Dead Red Ale. The hops in this beer really balance the sweetness of the caramel malts. So smooth with a mini sweet boozy finish that I appreciate. By this time I had a pretty nice buzz but couldn’t stop the fun now.
I remembered I brought some beers home from work that a beer rep gave me to sample so I decided to go through them one by one😂. I was supposed to drink these beers and provide the rep with feedback on how good they were and to see if I wanted to place an order to carry them in my store. Let’s just say no beer critiquing went on. Just straight pounded all these beers. I was officially lit🔥. It was around 6:30 when I got a text from by buddy Carlitos to remind me of the Ommegang Brewery Tap Takeover at Alpine Village. Ommegang was releasing 6 beers in honor of the new Game Of Thrones season and I had planned on being there for a whole month. I clearly wasn’t in any position to drive anywhere and I probably should’ve have quit drinking 3 beers ago but I was in too deep to turn back now. So I caught an Uber to Alpine Village😂.
The Tap Takeover was amazing and the beer was amazing. They played Game of Thrones episodes and did GoT trivia with the lucky winners getting free beer and apparel. Everyone in attendance got a GoT Valar Morghulis goblet glass to take home. The food definitely helped in sobering me up. This was the perfect way to end the day full of good beer and good company. Definitely a drunken day to remember.
